The MTV VMAs took over New York City on Monday, August 20th.
The biggest name's in music gathered at Radio City Music Hall for a night that promised "iconic" moments similar to year's past.
Unfortunately, the VMAs are no longer "music's most unpredictable night." and most of the moments simply failed to live up to the hype.
Here's your lowdown on the night's biggest winners, the best and worst performance, and the most buzzworthy moments that will be the talk of the office tomorrow.
1. Video Vanguard Award Winner: J-Lo

Best Performance, Best Speech, Best Dancing, Best Outfit... it all goes to J-Lo!!! There was the expected glam from the Video Vanguard recipient, the first Latina winner ever, but there was also Jenny from the Block, humbled by all of her achievements, thanking those that have helped her along this 20-year-ride. She shouted out her children for making her "stronger" and her soulmate Alex Rodriguez for showing her that the sky is not the limit on a daily basis. There's a handful of hardworking artists left in the biz and JLo continues to be one of them.
2. Best Joke: Fifth Harmony Diss

Tiffany Haddish took a jab at Fifth Harmony while boasting about Camila Cabello's five nominations. It all came full-circle when Nicki Minaj accepted her first award and told her to back off because "Normani is a bad b**ch." Can't we just have love for all five girls?
3. Pink Carpet Couple Debut: Ariana Grande & Pete Davidson

Newly engaged couple Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson made their pink carpet debut as a couple during the pre-show! When she accepted the award for Best Pop Song for "No Tears Left to Cry" she thanked him "for existing." Ah, young love!
4. Best Statement Performance: Logic and Ryan Teder

Logic is known for using his platform for good. He entered Radio City Music Hall with a bold message on his shirt -- "f**k the wall." If being followed by a group of people in white T-shirts felt familiar, it's because Slim Shady did the same exact thing in his 2000 VMA performance of "The Real Slim Shady." Each person in the performance donned a "we are all human" shirt and has been impacted by immigration issues. OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder added vocals to the moving performance.
5. Wettest Performance: Shawn Mendes

Like the greats before him -- I'm looking at you Taylor Swift and Britney Spears -- Shawn Mendes added a little rain to his opening performance. Talk about kicking things off on a wet note.
6. Biggest Winners: Childish Gambino and Cardi B

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino won three awards: Best Choreography, Best Direction and Video with a Message for "This is America." Sadly, he wasn't on hand to accept the awards. Cardi B also took home a few awards including Best New Artist, Song of the Summer for "I Like That" ft. Bad Bunny and J. Balvin, and Best Collaboration with Jennifer Lopez and DJ Khaled on "Dinero."
