Arrow is set to take its final bow in 2020, but the series that started The CW's DC Universe may not be completely over.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a female-fronted spinoff featuring Katie Cassidy, Juliana Harkavy, and Katherine McNamara is in the works at The CW.
That means we could be in for a TV series featuring canaries Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake, but how would McNamara's Mia Smoak fit into the mix?
Per reports, Smoak will formally continue the Arrow mantle that from her father, Oliver Queen, thus keeping some of the storylines alive beyond the eighth and final season of the series.
Instead of ordering a formal pilot for the series, a backdoor pilot will air as part of Arrow Season 8, so it's entirely possible that this show could be ordered for the 2020-21 TV season, effectively keeping the Arrow legacy alive.

With McNamara's addition, the series is poised to be set around the year 2040, but with Crisis on Infinite Earths coming up this December, there's no telling what changes to the timeline could transpire.
Fans have been clamoring for a show featuring canaries for several years now, so this may well be the next best thing.
Arrowverse veterans Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship, and Oscar Balderrama will serve as executive producers on the project, with Schwartz, Guggenheim, Blankenship, and Balderrama co-writing the backdoor pilot.

There's no telling whether some other characters from the series could join the spinoff, but time will tell whether a series with these three leads will work.
As things stand, the final season of Arrow debuts October 15, and there are some surprises in store for longtime fans.
Several former actors are staging comebacks, some for longer than others.
